 What do You think that you are  completely safe in your house during lightning?  No, you are not completely safe in your house. There are following reasons for "why aren't  completely safe in your house?"

1st: Lightning can strike telephone cords, electrical wires and metal piece.( BECAUSE LIGHTNING IS AN ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE ).

2nd: Bathroom should be avoided during thunderstorms to avoid contact with running water.

3rd: Electrical appliances like computer,TVs,should be UNPLUGGED.Electical lights can remain on. They don't cause any harms.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU OUTSIDE DURING LIGHTNING ? 

During lightning and thunderstorms no open place is safe.

# Hearing a thunderb is an alert to rush a safer place.

#After hearing the last thunder , wait for  sometime before coming out of the safe place.

Finding a safe place:

A house or a building is a safe place.

If you are traveling by a bus or car, you are safe inside with the windows and doors of the vehicle shut.

DO'S AND DON'TS DURING A THUNDERSTORM.

OUTSIDE:

Open vehicles, like motorcycle, tarctors, construction machinery, open cars are not safe. Open fields , tall trees, shelters in park, elevated places do not protect us from lightning stokes.

Carrying an umbrella is not at a a good idea during thunderstorms.

If in a forest, take shelter under shorter trees.

If no shelter is available and you are in an open field, stay far away from all trees. Stay away from ploes or other metal objects. Don't lie on the ground. Instead, squat low on the ground. Place your hands on your knees with your head between the hands as shown in figure.

 Safest position during lightning.

 This position will make you the smallest target to be struck.

How to protect building from the effect of lightning?

  With the help of lightning conductor. Lightning conductor is a device used for to protect building from the effect of lightning.

A mettalic rod,  taller than the building installed in the walls of the building during its conduction. One end of the rod is kept out in the air and other is burried deep in the ground  as shown in the figure.

The rod provides easy route for the transfer of electric charge  to the ground.

 The metal columns used during construction, electrical wires and water pipes in the building also protect us to an extent. But don't touch them during a thunderstorm.
